I have an HP iPAQ rz1710 I that I bought about 2 years ago and was using it just fine, but because of work I switched over to a Black Berry, now I have a new job so I am trying to get the HP iPAQ working again, but it will not sync with my any computers vie USB or Infrared Ports.

1. The Hand held has the same OS from 2 years ago. I think it needs an upgrade but I cannot connect to the Hand held to perform the upgrade, anyone know how or where to start on this problem?
2. I installed Active Sync 4.2 that came with the unit, no sync.
3. I installed Active Sync 6.x, still no sync.
4. In Active Sync on the computer 4.2 I went to “File>Connection settings, and made sure that “allow USB” is checked.
5. When I turn on the IR Port on the computer it sees the device but on the computer when I click on connect it now says “Infrared Port” is Available. But again the computer says “Your Device was not detected”

Can anyone help me?

Have you tried "resetting" your device - the handheld? Try that. Also, make sure that ActiveSync is actually running on your handheld. I know that if you had turned it off, or if for some reason it got turned off, it won't connect with the computer.
