Does anyone have white papers or documents pertaining to active/standby devices and how is may be considered a waste of money to have a standby unit 'sitting' there. Instead active/active is a better method.

Just wondering

I agree but its a waste of money letting it sit idle while the active node is working. was looking for documentation or white papers

piece of mind costs money. how redundant do you need, how redundant can you afford? waste of money is completely a judgement call.

how do you plan the active/active for your organization? (and I mean a real plan - topology, need, etc.)

A standby unit is a lot cheaper than an active unit. If a single unit can handle your load it would be a waste of money to go with active/active.
