Hi
Is there any way possible on Windows 2000 server of renaming the active directory or creating a new active directory root and migrating our existing active directory to this (on the same server)

Regards Anna

I'm sure the official line is "no you cant" but I did see a tool on the MS site titled "Domain rename tool" on the Windows 2000 server page. Cant find it now though, strange.

You have to options if this one isnt possible.

1. Install another server and install another domain on there, migrate the accounts using the Migration tools. Hold your breath and pray to god youve thought of everything.

2. Upgrade to Windows 2003 server and rename it.

Good luck! :)

I never found a way to rename the domain in 2000 Server, 2003 Server now supports that.

Is the only way in Win2k of renaming Active Directory, rebuilding the server from scratch?
If the server is rebuilt would this affect users logons and permissions?

Thanks for your comments

Anna
