Could someone tell me how to bring up ProcommPlus in HOST mode via a desktop shortcut ?

Thanks

Don

Create a new desktop shortcut (or modify the one that version 4.8 creates) that has this set as the target:

"C:\Program Files\Symantec\Procomm Plus\PROGRAMS\PW5.EXE" host.wax

Thanks for the quick reply KNOB.

The solution you have provided is exactly what I had done previous to requesting this help, but there seems to be a problem with it. Let me explain.

When I bring up HOST in the method you describe ... the modem fails to answer an incoming call.

However, if I bring up HOST by selecting it from the pulldown menu from inside Procomm at startup mode ... it will then answer an incoming call.

So, there is something different about these two processes.

Any thoughts on that ?

I'm not aware of any reason why that should be different. If you look under the Options | Answer Options menu after you run the shortcut that launches the host script, what options are checked?

Another option you have is to edit startup.was so that it launches the host script automatically when Procomm is run (you'll only want to do this if Procomm is never needed for other operations). To do this, edit startup.was, then add this line before the endproc command:

chain "host.wax"

Compile startup.was and you should be good to go.

KNOB ...

I will store away your ideas for later if needed.

It appears I have found the problem. The PW5.EXE" host.wax worked fine for every place except in the STARTUP area.

I changed it to read ... PW5.EXE terminal host.wax and it now answers.

Does that make some sense to you ?

The only thing I can think of is that host (and a couple other scripts) are intended to run in only data mode. If Procomm was run in a different mode previously and shut down, it will start up in that mode when Procomm is launched next. The script should then display a popup asking if it's OK to switch to data mode. But I can't think of a reason that it would behave differently if in the startup folder.

I made a call to Symantec and they left me a message indicating that HOST would not answer if it is activated through the STARTUP process. They said there were not workarounds.
