activate a pager

I have an application which needs to activate a pager when an alarm occurs in the software. I am kind of new to visual basic and I looking for some direction on what the easiest approach would be.

This requires that you send data to a transmitter, which in turn will send data to your pager.

the easiest way to do this is to use programs which already do this. For instance you could send data via the web to ICQ, or other SMS services that will send data to your pager or phone.

I know this hasn't been much help, but you might try looking into MIcrosoft Internet Transfer Control, which will enable you to send data to webpages. These could be SMS webforms. (Check out [link]http://www.freesms.net/[/url] and other similar websites.)

Also, some phone companies offer to send alerts and pages to telephones and pagers via an email address (Qwest lets you email a SMS message to your cell phone or pager via yourphonenumber@qwestms.com. you might want to see if your provider offers a similar service.

PS: I just checked out a site that will send free SMS messages to most phone numbers.

You could use the Microsoft Internet Transfer Control to access that site's CGI file that sends the messages out.

Take a look at the simplemail component. its a free download that I have used with success to page alpha numeric pagers and cell phones. It can be downloaded at
