Actions

Hey all,

I most recently got involved with Photoshop and Image Ready actions, in order to automate some highly tedious jobs. It's all well and good, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to run certain functions inside the actions, and I was wondering if there is a way to edit it manually, with a text editor or some such thing, so as to allow me to do that voodoo which I need to do. Specifically, I am wondering if there is any sort of command structure, and really hoping there is and that it hinges on a IF/THEN ELSE style arguement. If anyone knows anything about this, or if you have any idea where I can get information on this (Adobe has been of little help), I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks,

I've been trying to do the same thing since actions became available. DOH! I have heard of people using external macro apps like applescript to run a series of actions with little mods inbetween. Havnt actually done it myself.

If your experience is recent, you might not be aware that you can place a pause in your action to allow you to make changes, selections, etc., before continuing on with your action. Once your action is recorded, inspect your action for the best place to put a pause, then go to the actions menu (right arrow) and insert the pause.

Thank you for your suggestion, however, I was aware of the stop action that could be inserted. However, I'm still looking for a way to automate it to be a no-thought process. Several people will be using it when I'm not around to troubleshoot problems, so I would like to make it as brainless as possible. Any other thoughts?
