Hello,

I cannot connect to my network unless I assign a static IP address. If I use automatically assign IP address by DHCP server, I get the IP address (10.0.0.255) which is invalid.

If I click repair in the network connection. I get the error message:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address"

I tried: ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew
and it re-assigns the invalid ip address 10.0.0.255

Also I run the "Layered Service Provider" fix (lspfix.exe) and winsockfix.exe with no luck.

BTW, I run the latest dat file from mcafee in dos mode, but no virus was found.

Any idea what could be the problem?

OS Version and Service Pack level?
See faq779-4625

when you get that ip do you get a gateway and dns settings aw well?
that ip could be valid depending on how your provider is subnetting the 10 network.

you are getting an ip address from a DHCP server but it could be a rogue one. If you were getting an apipa address you would get a 169.254.*.* address instead.

As already mentioned what other information do you receive?
from a cmd prompt type ipconfig /all and let us know what info you have, also check to make sure you don't have a secondary ip address setup as well.

Also tell us what ip address you manually assign as well please.
