I have been using Internet Mail in Act! version 2007 (9.0.1) since March '07. Sending emails has always worked OK, receiving mail however has gotten progressively slower over time, and finally stopped working! Hitting the send/receive brings up a message "checking for new messages" and then shows a very high number (usually 100+)emails being received. progress bar "Receiving message 70 of 120" (for example)runs for a while, then freezes. Cntrl alt del shows Act! Email to be "not responding". Closing email only and attempting to reopen brings up message box: "Act! cannot find any installed e-mail carriers on this computer. You haven't set up any e-mail systems. You will need to install e-mail on this computer before you can send and receive e-mail in ACT!". Closing ACT! altogether and relaunching allows E-Mail to open again. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Personally, I prefer and recommend using Outlook for email with ACT!

However, in your issue, It could be a badly configured email that is causing ACT! to choke (this can happen with other email clients as well). If you have web access to the email account, you might have a look if one looks wrong and delete it.

Other possible options include:
Anti Virus issues - try turning off any anti-virus (especially Norton) getting the emails and then turn it back on
Email database size to big - see ACT! knowledge base id 14034

Also, if you Alt-Tab, sometimes you'll get an actual error message behind the email window, can you try that?
