A colleague of mine has ACT! 6 Contact Management software on his desktop and 'ACT! for Palm OS' running on his Treo phone.
All worked well until he had a hard drive crash on the desktop and had to recover the ACT! database. The most useful backup was six weeks out of date. However, the Palm version is right up-to-date.
In their wisdom, Best Software, producers of ACT!, do not allow the Palm software to overwrite the desktop database - only synchronise with it.
Consequently, the 'ACT! for Palm OS' software is the only one being updated - yet the desktop databse becomes more and more out of date.
There are really two issues here....
1) The desktop database needs bringing in line with the Palm. Is there a way other than going through every record and checking for changes by eye?
2) How can the Treo ACT! data be backed-up? The device doesn't have a slot for an expansion card and it's a protected application so cannot be beamed. Is there any way to save the data somehow?
We'd very much appreciate any solutions you can throw our way.
Thanks
Fruity
