When I start up ACT 2007 it regularly starts in the getting started mode. It only takes me a minute or two to set up my email, dialer, word processor, etc. and open my database files again, but it is really annoying and I figure someone here must have an idea what is happening

Is the not every time? How often?
Is this one workstation or multiple?
One user or multiple?

I previously had this issue before the recent 9.0.a patch -
Have you updated (server first, then all workstations)

I couldn't find a pattern to the occurances. I had it loaded on only one laptop computer, one user, no server, etc. Every once in a while, maybe every week or two, ACT would start and up would pop the getting started wizard. I am pretty sure I have the latest updates of ACT 9 installed because I have check for updates installed and within the last week or so had to convert some databases for a new update that had been applied.

hmmm... try turning off the Auto check for updates in Tools | Preferences |Startup.

I have (not sure why) seen this cause it on some rare systems... but as it's set for 10 days by default, the timing would be what you describe

yeah, that's the first thing I did. I thought it could be somehow related to my laptop. I have a relatively new Toshiba Satellite and they loaded so many extraneous annoyance programs that load up at the start and I am thinking this must have something to do with it! It's a theory that serves two purposes -- 1) makes sense out of the inexplicable; and 2) givee me another channel to vent frustration at Toshiba for messing with me!

nothing else in ACT! I can think of would do it so irregularly... something might be playing with the registry maybe?
