We have been running ACT! 2007 for around a 2 months now and for the last 4 weeks its been very unstable. Now when we come to run it on two of our machines (2 out of 3) it simply sits in the background using a consistant 25% of the CPU and does absolutely nothing.

We have wasted many hours searching around the web, reading all the logs we can find, comparing them, running diagnostics programs etc etc.

I was hoping someone may a) have seen the problem before or b) have some ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Daniel.

Nothing in the windows event log, no. Looking at the other threads on the same subject ill just elaborate on the problem:

There are not other instances of the program (be that ActSage or Act9) running when the problem occurs.

The preloader (actsage.exe -preload) does exactly the same thing, sits there using about 25% CPU until someone shuts it down via the task manager.

Thanks for your help GLC.

Regards, Daniel.

Tried that, it doesnt record anything in the log upon running the program, it doesnt even get that far.

After a quick chat with Sage support today they told us to do exactly that, so we have scheduled that for tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll be able to find something from that.

Thanks for your help Mike.

Oddly enough, we got two (i know, two!) decent support guys today. One fixed another issue with history not being recorded and then this guy actually tried his best to help by suggesting that.

So its selective startup tomorrow (not really meant to work weekends, but its pretty important) and if that doesnt work its back onto Sage support on Monday.

Regards, Daniel.

If starting ACT! is SS mode doesn't work, the next step would be a full uninstall: Reboot
Then uninstall .Net and SQL (Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs).
Reboot
Then, just install .Net 2.0 from the Microsoft site and the patches for it.
Reboot
Then a reinstall in SS Mode -
I always prefer to install in Selective Statup Mode. It's much more reliable

Hey Mike,

Just thought id update you on what happened. We went through and did exactly as you said, and guess what, it worked a treat!

Took 3 hours, but hey, it worked. At first it only worked on user profiles, not the admin profile it was installed on, but it just started working on our admin profile today. Seems a lot more stable than it ever was before, even if it was a little odd that it just started working again.
