ACT 2000 fields appear encrypted in Crystal

i have a vb routine that transfers data from ACT to SQL Server. Some fields that are transfered are encrypted/replaced with nonsense characters. Is there a way to get the correct field names in the SQL server or in Crystal reports if reporting directly off ACT database?
