Hello everyone,

I just changed out an ACS R3 processor with a ACS R7 (the old one died). We have a Partner Mail VS R5, which will now not come up. The LED comes on green, but then goes dark after about 5 seconds. No yellow or orange - just dark.

I took the VS module out and put it into a Partner II system, and it works great. LED glows green and VM is fully functional. This has to have something to do with the new R7 processor, but what?

I remember hearing somewhere (probably in a post here) that the ACS R7 has an issue with the VS module, and that there is a patch for it. As of yet, I have been unsucessful in locating any such patch.

Any help with this would be appreciated, as (of course) this is an urgent matter for us.

Thanks in advance!!

Since the R7 processor has 9 stations vs the 8 stations on the R3, the module may be indicating that you need to change your designated voicemail ports.

Since the processor was replaced with a brand new one, the programming was done from scratch. I did set the appropriate ports to hunt group 7, but the voice mail isn't there. I cannot ICM the VM, nor will it even light up into a ready state.

What other cards do you have in the cabinet? I've had issues with 400 cards and their location relative to the VS mails.

The incompatibility issue has to do with transfers from the auto attendant to extensions in DND not covering to VM but transferring to the Operator instead.

Just a single 308 card in the first slot. I have tried placing the VS in the second, fourth and fifth slots - all with the same result.

Just for grins, try removing the 308 expansion card and putting the VS mail in the first slot, to see if it will fire up.

You can't skip slots, so your configuration should be 308E, VS R5, R7 Proc, Empty, Empty

Your layout was my original configuration. I have not tried slot 1, but I did't think it should matter. I suppose that the 308 card could be causing the problem (something I didn't think of). At least that would be much less to replace than the VS.

I am going to pull the 308. I'll post my results here.

Ther is a know issue with PMVS 5.0 not working with the ACS 7.0 There is a fix patch that you would install on the PMVS 5.0. Here's that catch, You will have to use a 6.0 ACS or lower to be able to get the PMVS 5.0 to come up so you can install the patch to the voice mail. Contact your vendor to locate this patch.

I believe the patch corrected a problem with calls not going to voicemail when "Do Not Disturb" (DND) was activated at an extension.

Problem solved - sort of. The VS will only work in slot 1. Wether the 208 card is present or not is irrevelant. I just moved the 308 to slot 2 and renumbered the extensions on the 208 card. I have no idea why no other slot will work, but at least it's operational.

Thank to everyone who pitched in on this one!

thanks for posting back , its always nice to know what made things work

Strange fault. I haven't had a problem with any rev of a VS (3,4 or 5) coming up. The call coverage has been a problem if the client uses DND.

Hi 1043,
I'm just saying I've been lucky so far. I hate that the new uP isn't 100% backwards compatible. The vm is an expensive card. The other issue is the paging port if you try to use one on a 206 card. sigh.

A little late I know, but sometimes the 5-slot carrier goes a little funky when upgrading. Could be bad contacts caused by shorts or surges or just general funk build-up.

Just for the heck of it, try a new carrier and see if that makes a difference...

Good point Jonny,
I have had broken solder connections on the old style. Usually the power connections, then it starts arcing.
