Thanks, and we have the 5.0 version now. And, unlike the previous versions, it is a free download.

My expectation of a simple, reliable connection is still an expectation, as the 5.0 does reliably connect and establish a session with the processor, but still fails to successfully go thru the entire process of download, modify, upload and restore.

The download now works for me, but the upload fails. The restore works but of course that is simply restoring the previous configuration.

Establishing a connection seems to take a long time, a minute or more. After connection and before a session is established, there is often no audible negociation, as though the process has stopped. Then, of course, the session fails. So, establishing a session is very spotty though it has worked. I am wondering if there is a reset time required before it accepts new attempts (?).

FYI: I am trying to limit these experimets to a simple processor on a bench with a laptop connected directly to a station port or through the Aux port on a set. It connects only at 4800 bps, despite many variations in modem configuration.

Naturally, any clues would be appreciated.

I had the same experience on my IBM 600x laptop until I used a stand alone modem - USRobotics Sportster 56k. I'm able to connect everytime so far - about 20 times. I going through the aux connection on an 18D using the intercom process to dial into the Avaya box. I've connect at the correct bps speed with no problem. Try an external modem connected to the laptop com port.

I am not able to find the software portion of procedure above. Has the page changed?

Guys (& whoever);

Avaya tech support (White, Michelle D (Michelle) [mailto:michellewhite@avaya.com], Senior Engineer, Avaya, Inc. 720-444-5815) provided one bit of information regarding ACS 5.0 Remote Access which has allowed it to work for me: set the modem for 1200 (you read it correctly--1200!) It now performs the required tricks to step through the modem connect, session establish, download, revise, upload and restore proceedure.

I had previously tried (many hours!) to get a direct connect working: tried two PCs, with internal and three external modems, many variations of modem setup for compression, error correction, handshaking, init strings, etc. Nothing worked reliably. I had tried forcing connect speeds down to 4800 but not to 1200!

Also, she said that attempting an upload without first downloading would cause the Partner to reset its password ("reset" means NO password).

Yours,
Mike
