We have a ACS R6 module, with Mail VS R4. It also had already 1 2 X 6 (or 8 i think) module. I moved the mail module and added a 3x8. I moved the 3X8 into slot 1, then the 2x6 into the 2 slot. The mail module into the 3 slot. Everything worked fine. I then tried to add another 3x8. So the new 3x8 is in slot 2, the 2x6 in slot 3, the mail in slot 4. However the green light on the newly installed 3x8 goes on then off. Is there a restriction on what i can add? I called in the mail and it states that it can only have 20 vm boxes. This is a brand new module and it works if i swapped it out with the existing 3x8. How can i get the second 3x8 to work?

THANKS!

you need to be more specific on where your R6 is...if you call the 308EC(expansion) and the R6 we will be able to know exactly what you have going where.

the ACS r6 is in the center slot.i dont give the ACS a number so slot 1 is slot 1, 2 is 2 but when i say slot 3 i mean the slot just to the right of the ACS, and slot 4 is the last slot.

Double check the ports assigned to Hunt Group #7. When you shif the modules around, the ports assigned to that group need to change.

I hate typos [purpleface]. My sentence should have said "When you shift modules around".

in the documentation is says that Mail VS R4 does not work with an R6. I understand that it was working before, but still i thought i would let you know what they say is supposed to work and not supposed to work. Anyways....

The R6 supports up to 48 extensions. Mail VS R4 supports 10, 20, and 40 users, i dont know if that is how it comes or if you can change it... i know with the PC card you can change the number of mailboxes, and the only result is a lower message length for each mailbox.

How many lines do you have?

Dexman, i guess that would be the obvious thing to check first. man i wish i would have thought of that before i typed that whole thing.

but would any of this stop the module, the newest 3x8, from lighting up?

I am only using 4 lines right now.

it is certainly possible, that could be the whole reason that Avaya doesnt support the Mail VS R4 with R6. But most likely it isnt.

What i would try first is taking out the new 308EC and moving everything back to what is was and see if it still works. You need to start with having them in the order of before you started having problems.

308EC-206EC-R6-MailVSR4

Have you veryfied that the new 308EC is a good card before adding it to the system, maybe it is DOA???

If you know its good, then I would take out the Mail VS R4 and see if everything comes back up.

If that doesnt work i would try taking out the 206EC and the Mail VS R4.

Thanks for all your input. I tested each Module and everything worked by itself and with all but the last 308. I finally somehow got all the 308's to light up. Maybe it was a bad connection, bad module. However the slots all seem to be working fine and the Modules are all brand new. As of right everything works, but i hope i dont have to turn the system off, ever. For some reason you are right though, the Mail VS4 does not like the ACS 6.
Here is my order for anyone who thinks who will not work (but i would not recoomend this at all!)
308 | 308 | ACS6 | 206 | Mail VS4 |

1 point of clarification. The Partner ACS R7 does not support the Partner Mail VS R4. The R6 supports all of the Partner Mail VS releases.

Oh, may be i have an old Matrix??? My matrix was made in May of 06, and it states that only the r5 and down support the Mail VS R$. what doc are you looks at, may be i need to get an update?

Hi gknight!

I'm really not a CPE installer. I'm a C.O. technician, but I do maintain (1) Merlin Magix and (2) Partner ACS systems.

The info about which versions of the Partner Mail VS will work with the R1->R6 processors and which one will work with the R7 processor has been posted by knowledgeable installers here in this Tek-Tips forum as well as over at another tech help-site.

I'll try to find a posting here on Tek-Tips and will list the URL.
