Is it okay to place a Voice Mail VS R4.1 in slot one and a 200 module in slot 2, with the Processor in the P slot of a five slot carrier? I won't violate any digital higharchy? The business is a small doctor's office with five telephones and four telephone lines. They will not grow beyond the eight telephone ports available in this configuration. Nor grow to more than the five lines available to them as well.

That config is fine. Since the VS Mail is seen as an 006, it won't affect the line placement - it will still be lines 4 and 5 on the 200 card.

If you were to ever add a card with stations, you would move everything down a slot, and reprogram the voice mail ports, so that you don't have a gap in the station numbering.

What does 'Since the VS Mail is seen as an 006' mean?

Means it isnt seen by the system to have lines.
IE: a 206 is seen as having 2 Lines and 6 Extensions. A VS is seen as a 006 when counting extensions. No lines, 6 extension Positions for counting the next card inline.

The 1st digit is the number of lines, the 2nd & 3rd are the number of stations.

006=0-Lines, 6-Stations
200=2-Lines, 0-Stations
206=2-Lines, 6-Stations,
308=3-Lines, 8-Stations
400=4-Lines, 0-Stations
012=0-Lines, 12-Stations
