Have a location with an R1 processor and 3 expansion modules (2 x 206 & 1 x 200).
The processor has stopped giving audio path.
I went to replace it with an R6 308 processor but it does not work with the expansion modules.
I looked at the pins on the blade for the backplane and see that they are different from the R1 processor.
What is the newest release processor that I can use with the 5 slot carrier that is in place? R3 maybe?
I don't remember there being a difference until R7 in the backplanes but I am clearly wrong!

Thanks for your help!

Besides the regular processor, Avaya sold a non-expandable version of the R6. I suspect that the processor you have is the non-expandable version.

Replace again with a known standard R6 processor.

Given the age of the 200 and 206 modules...and that the Partner platform has been discontinued.....if the funds are there.... I would suggest upgrading the front end to the final hardware releases (new carrier, R8 processor & 308EC expansion modules) and even bump them up to an Avaya Partner Messaging voicemail.

Looks like it's one of the non-expandable versions. Seems like I remember hearing something about them years ago, but never ran in to one of them.
I just did a test with the processor, a 2 slot carrier and a 308 expansion module on the bench and it did the same thing. Status light comes on for a second on the 308 expansion module and then goes out.

Thanks Dexman for the info!

I never really understood the reasoning behind the small R6 processor.

If a company only needed 3 lines and 8 extensions, then they would be sold the stand alone processor, the required number of system telephones and maybe one of the Partner Voice Messaging auto attendant/voicemail PCMCIA cards.

No real need to create another processor that looks like a regular one, but doesn't have the components to see expansion modules. [thumbsdown]

I think it must have been someone at Avaya who came up with a "cash cow" idea to justify their position and ridiculous salary...
