ONe of our salesmen sold a 308EC card to a customer without checking the release of the system. It turns out it is a R1.0.1. I put the 308EC card in the system and turn it on. The green light comes on for about 2 or 3 seconds and then goes out. I don't think that a release 1 will recognize a 308EC card (correct me if I'm wrong).

Next step... I will need to upgrade the system with an R6 flash card. My question is, If I flash the system up to R6 will I have to reprogram the system or will it keep the translations and convert them to R6?

I have never had to upgrade a working customer before and want to know how much work this is going to take.

Yes, you need to upgrade to at least R3 to use the 308 card. The upgrade is simple. First make sure that the batteries are good. Power down the system, pull out the current PC card, and insert the new R6 upgrade card. Power up the system, and the LED on the processor will blink Green and Red for a few seconds, then go solid Green. The current programming will be translated to R6 at the same time. As soon as the system comes back up, BACKUP the system with #124, because you will no longer be able to restore from the old card. Keep the new card in the system, don't put the old card back in. The new card will include the internal modem for remote administration, so program a password and put ext. 76 into hunt group 6 if you intend to use this feature.

Looking at the ACS manuals, the Overview section lists all the improvements release-by-release. Some of the releases specifically mention support for new hardware (like the 1600 DSL and the 012E modules). The 308EC module is never mentioned in the update list, so one presumes it has been supported since ACS R 1.0

My apologies. I checked more carefully in the Partner ACS Programming and Use guide. The Overview does say: "308EC Expansion Module (Release 2.0 or later) ..."

The 308 Expansion Card was introduced at the R2 release and works with any R2 or higher ACS processor.
