Has this ever happened to anyone.

I have worked on Parter for years. I have had ACS PROC power supplies go out on me before, no problem there are plenty available for replacement. I have even used a ACS 308 power supply they are the same. This time I pulled a 308 power supply and installed it in the PROC, I always watch close as I plug them in with the cabinet off because sometimes the power supply board smokes and shorts out. This time the lower bottom of the PROC board with the row of small IC chips sparks. I have never see this before, any idea what happened?

A short had developed in one or more of the station port circuits which blew the fuses on the older and weaker power supply. When you replaced it with a good power supply the defective chips couldn't handle the increased current and committed suicide. I have done quite a bit of ACS repair over the years and always check for shorts/bad chips before reapplying power to the module. Half of the time it's more than just a dead power supply.

Thank you I thought I may have plugged the PS ribbon cable in wrong, I did that once with a Nortel BCM50 and I will never forget! It was the same horror of a brilliant white spark and flash! Is this worth repairing? They sell for around 100.00 on ebay and even the 509s a only a little more if you hunt for them. Should I plug it in and see what ports are left alive or better not to use the PROC board again?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I had the same experience with a BCM50 when I got in too much of a hurry. Repair can still make sense if you can sell the ACS for more than you put into it. Plugging power into the module could cause more damage to the ACS and/or blow up the power supply, so I'd suggest not doing that.

Thank you very much. It was pretty old. I have a spare so I think I will just get a newer 509. Amazing that the Partner still to this say is a very popular system. I think it is just a good old basic reliable key system that works for so many small business and the cost is just right. There are still brand new parts and handsets still around. Funny thing is this is the only system that my customers refer to by name they will call me up and say "My Partner system"... needs this or that, but they always call it by name.
