acs dead after inserting remote access card

Hi,
I bought a remote access card on e-bay... all gray label and tuned off my acs unit, inserted the card, and turned the power on again. Now my green light does not illuminate. Regardless if I have the card inserted or not. Have I corrupted the software? I had acs 6.0.
The card has these numbers on the back:

12G3 RAC R581.5/DSL84.1 700191323X

The power supply seems to be OK. I here relays clicking when I plug it in.

Putting in the card wouldn't have fried it, powering off and on could have, though.

Is it a true R6 or an upgraded older CPU? Look at the serial number: the first few characters will indicate the vintage. A true R6 will still be under warranty from your source.

Have you done some simple troubleshooting to verify the CPU is the culprit? If you're running a 5 slot carrier, back out all the modules except the CPU from the backplane 2 inches and power up. If the CPU fires up, it's one of the expansion modules bringing the system down (more likely than a bad CPU). If you have a straight backup/restore card, power it back down, insert the backup card, then power up again and back it up before going any further. Then power down, remove the backup card and put it away for future use. Reinsert the slot 1 module along with the CPU and power up again. Repeat, adding slot 2, then 3 then 4 until you isolate the offending module. If it won't fire up with all modules backed out, remove the CPU from the carrier and power directly from the power cord plugged into the back of the CPU. Be aware that if the CPU power supply is fried, powering it directly make make it smoke.

That should get your problem isolated for repair purposes.

I'm sorry, I failed to mention this is a stand alone unit... Just the processor. The processor came off e-bay too and you know, I don't see a serial number on the unit. Thanks for your response to my question!

Chances are more than great that the R6 you bought was a well used R1 or R2 that was flashed to R6 and sold on eBay without addressing any weak points. Very typical, and they never come with a warranty. The early power supplies were pretty bad, and you got stung. You may be able to replace it by itself, but I would send it off to be repaired and get a warranty.

This is one of those "learning experiences" you hear about so often.
