I have a large word document of 516 pages. When I print to distiller it repaginates the whole document to 511 pages and subsequently some pages in acrobat do not contain the same text as in the original Word document. Can anyone tell why this happens and what can be done to prevent it?

AJ,
Without seeing the actual results of your actions, it's hard to tell exactly whats happening BUT it sounds like you have some soft returns at the end of a few of your pages. I would check a couple things: First, check your Word page properties. Make sure your pages properties are set the way you want to see your final document.(File>Page Setup>etc.)Second, check for hard or soft returns at the ends of your pages. Use View>Page Layout to determine where your pages begin and end. Got to Tools>Options and check the Paragraph Marks box under Formatting Marks. These marks will tell you where your hard returns are. Work thru your doc to ensure you have the pages layed out the way you want and then Re-distill. To make the Paragraph marks go away, reverse the Tools>Options steps. Report back your results.

And double check that the page size you have in the Word doc EXACTLY matches the page size you have selected in Distiller.

Many thanks, I will do as suggested.

Just thought of something else. Word is notorious for text reflow when printed to a printer different than the default. Or opened on a computer with a different default printer.

Assuming you are on Windows, go to Start>Settings>Printers and click on the Distiller icon; then go to File>Set as Default. Then reopen your Word document, and I bet that the text reflows back to the 511 pages. The only way to prevent this happening is to put hard page breaks at the bottom of each of the pages. This is assuming you want to keep the original 516 pages.
