I need HELP!!!! I have 2 users who while trying to print from Acrobat Reader 7.0(all updates installed) get the error message "Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer". They can print fine from a .doc, .xls, etc, and I can print to that same printer directly from the Citrix server they are connected to. Any ideas/suggestions? This error was posted some time ago ( thread48-1135366 ) but I could not find any resolution. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!!

Update...I can print from Acrobat Reader if I save the .pdf file to the clients local pc and can also print the .pdf file locally from the Citrix server. Only have the problem when the user runs the report on the Citrix server and tries to print. Only happens to one single user though.

shoose61,
I've seen this issue before with another application and the issue was the print driver that we were using on the printer.

Test it out and use a simple print driver like a HP LJ 4000 or something and see what it does.

Also...I know that in some cases you have to have an administrator logged into the console of the server in order for the full version of Adobe to work.

Hope that helps.

When we had the problem, there was no default printer selected. Weird. Anyway, we selected a printer as default and life was good again.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my plea!! I keep reading about no default printer being selected. Does this mean on the server or on the local workstation? I made sure the user had a default printer selected on the local machine, even went so far as to select a different local printer as the default, but still get the error. I will try changing the print driver on the server as well as the local machine to see if that helps as well. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again!!

I just got the error...

The user had selected a printer as a "default printer" that no longer existed.

I.E. Her "Default Printer"
(start-settings-Printers&Faxes-Right Click on Printer and set default)
was pointing to a printer that previously existed on a server, but had been deleted or disabled in the past. Thus, it was giving printer connect errors.

I fixed the problem by pointing to a printer with a status "READY".

Note, I always display printers in the "Printers & Faxes" menu using the "Details" mode so I get the status column.
