I've got a client with Adobe Acrobat 6.0.4 Standard. When he opens multiple PDF files at once, multiple instances of acrobat.exe open up (in task manager), but only a single PDF is displayed. When he closes acrobat, only one instance of acrobat.exe or acrord32.exe (in task manager) closes and the app window goes away.

I've noticed that it happens particularly when opening multiple PDFs at the same time. However, if I open up these same files individually, one at a time, only one instance of acrobat.exe or acrord32.exe shows up and closes when I close the app.

Any ideas?

I tried removing and reinstalling all Adobe Acrobat products (Full/Reader), but no joy.

What worked was installing Windows XP SP2. My guess is some of the system files were hosed somewhere along the way and SP2 set them straight. It's all better now.
