I have a user that cannot either create a pdf or use the distiller within Word - and the toolbar buttons are missing. It does not work either when starting acrobat manually. This is a Windows2000 Pro computer. It only happens with this one user profile on the computer. It works fine without problems with any other logon on same pc - so the application is not corrupted.

I have: removed and reinstalled acrobat, deleted temp files, ran all MS updates, etc. -- I even manually deleted the acrobat folders in the user's profile under \profile\application data\adobe etc. - and ran a repair of acrobat to recreate the folders - as well as repaired MS-Office.

any ideas at all on this one?

was able to resolve this very weird situation by replacing the pdfmaker.dot file that was in \program files\microsoft office\office10\startup folder with the default copy in \program files\adobe\acrobat\pdfmaker folder -- also had to go in word, do help-about, click disabled items list, and re-enable the pdfmaker.

then had to remove/reinstall acrobat one last time to recreate the pdf printer object.

not sure why the DOT file was causing problems for this one user, vs. any user - but it did. my only guess is it might have been the temp file ~filename.dot that was in the office startup folder.

anyway, mystery solved. found support link by searching for pdfmaker.dot that led me to the right solution

umm thanks for all the replies.... :p

I ended up experiencing the same weird problem. Lucky me, I found this post, followed the instructions, and Voila! it is fixed. THANK YOU!

Now, if only I could figure out the problem where starting Adobe always forces a start of Fronpage that I have to cancel (3x) to get through. Uuuggghhh.

glad i could help on the word problem.

as for frontpage, if you mean the windows installer prompt starts and is looking for files but cant find them, you might be able to use the windows installer clean-up utility (search microsoft.com) to fix this, if you cant reinstall frontpage. most often its a "feature" of the program that you didnt select to install the first time that kicks off the installer.

if you do have the original media/cd - you can go to control panel, add/remove progs, and choose to change the install, add features, and go to the frontpage section, right click, and choose "run all from my computer" -- the installer will then search the cd for the missing files, and then your annoyance will be gone forever. good luck.
