I have a Sonicwall tz170w-sonicos standard GVC(v4) vpn problem. Onsite on the wlan on the sonicwall, I connect without problem. My virtual adapter acquires an ip and all works perfectly. Offsite (remote connection) I can do the same on a wired lan. The virtual adapter is leased an ip address and works just like the onsite wlan connection. The problem, or confusing part is that it does not work offsite on a wireless connection. I have tried multiple locations, home and public access hotspots. I can even have the same exact ip/subnet assigned to my wifi connection as my wired connection (not at the same time) but the virtual adapter hangs on acquiring the ip.

Laptop wireless on sonicwall wlan – works
Laptop wired on offsite lan to sonicwall wan- works
Laptop wireless on offsite wlan (same ip/subnet as offsite lan) to sonicwall wan – does not work

It shouldn’t be a firewall issue as far as ports and ip addresses. Any suggestions on where or what to look for or check out would be a huge help. Thanks.

Hello,

I would start by upgrading the wireless drivers on the laptop to the latest avaliable.

I would also try either another laptop or try a USB Wireless Adapter in it instead of the onboard card.

Either way it sounds like a laptop issue to me, rather than the SonicWall.

Thanks.

A colleague of mine experienced the exact same problem from his wireless connection when VPNing into our old 3060Pro.

We couldn't figure it out at all, he eventually replaced his US Robotics router with a Netgear one and it's all been fine since.
