I had another one that i haven't run into "yet." I got called out late Saturday night for one of our buildings that lost connectivity to the network. Our networking guys tried everything they could and called me in to check the fiber.
I shot light (or tried to) between two buildings and wasn't getting anything. Fiber related for a change..
This fiber feeds from another building and goes aerial to the building that was down. I saw a place where some DA drug the fiber with a truck and had the lashing down, so i was sure thats where the break was. I had my contractors come in with a OTDR and the footage of cabling related to the break wasn't adding up. It was showing 330 feet from the first building (around 150 past where the lashing was broken) and 200 from the building that was down? ? Going to the pole in the back of the building that was down, the fiber was shredded. I knew something was squirrelly at this point.
Squirrels had eaten all the way through the sheath, fiberglass strength members, aluminum and pieces of fiber (around 3/4" long) were laying on the ground.
I wonder if i can get overtime for sitting in the back of the building with a lawn chair, an ice chest (packed with my beverage of choice) , and my pellet rifle??
When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?
