Is it possible to connect an access database (backend) to an html website (front end)? I’m not considering doing this, but it would be nice to know. Is it easy to do? Disadvantages of access database online?

Its possible through ASP

I use a DNS-Less connection to open the Database.

If u need more info let me know.

I wouldn't use access for that sort of thing, but I hear that MS FrontPage has some sort of wizard for this type of thing.
If you have a copy check it out.

There's also bits that Access has built-in such as Data Access Pages, but I don't believe they are dynamic enough (e.g. are not directly linked in with access, sort of a offline, web-based copy). Although when I played with it on my local machine I needed to play with ODBC.

I hear there are great advantages for this sort of thing with MS stuff. FP, SharePoint Portal /Team Services and Access do add up to a reaonable solution.

Not much help, but a few points to think about! Try the Access Help.

Good Luck,

Steve.

Unfortunately the Data Access pages store the connection string...not something id like hanging out there.

I havent yet heard of the frontpage tools to handle this kind of stuff...any URL's come to mind???

Hey,

I use FP a lot but not yet used the DB connection wizard avaliable in FP2003.

I've just this minute tried it, and it seems pretty good. You slap a copy of the MDB file into the web, FP then has pages relating to most forms etc. in a .asp format.

I've just uploaded it to my intranet and it seems to work great! :)

I'm sure there is something on the MS site about it.

Good Luck,

Steve.
