I have an Acer Aspire One netbook. The wireless network stopped working recently. I did a system restore to a previous point and it started working again but it did not last. After the system restore the wireless icon on the task bar shows a small globe on it and all works fine then the next time I turn the computer on the wireless icon shows "Access: Local Only" and I can't access the internet without doing a system restore to a previous time. I know that is not very much information but it all I have been figure out at the moment. Any ideas on what causes this?

This is my first experience with Windows Vista...

Thanks
Mel

what you could try:

1. disabled IPv6 (Vista - If you really want to disable IPv6, you can.)

2. assigned a static IP address in the same subnet as your router, e.g. IP 192.168.1.200 with subnet 255.255.255.0

3. for default gateway use the IP of the router, e.g. 192.168.1.1 (most routers use this address, but check your manual)

4. for the DNS server use the same IP as the gateway above

DO NOT FORGET to REBOOT afterward...

Thanks for the information and effort guys. The problem appears to be in my firewall software (ESET Smart security 4). Works great on Windows XP machines but seems very unstable on the Acer Aspire. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and since I haven't been able to find any help on the ESET web site, I just turned the firewall off for now and all is working.

Again, Thanks
Mel
