acer 20x CDR & nero.....

i keep making coasters.

my CDR drive seems fine most of the time but sometimesit locks up and then the burn fails.....

any tips or help??

Been there and done that!
You should be able to do a test run and that would determine record/transfer speed (run test/copy).

Disable the PC's screen saver. If it activates during a record the transfer rate may decrease and cause a buffer underrun or (coaster).
Close all applications, except cd software.
Use the correct high-speed recording, >than 8x uses a different rewriting method, if this is a CD-RW.
Clean the souce CD.
Create an image file and record from it.
If there are two recordind speeds (low and high) use low for file by file and high for image file transfer from you HD.
Reduce the record speed.
