Thanks for the tip Diogenes. Was a good starting point. Went to ACD home page and left message for tech staff. 5 bus days later, still no reply. Curse of the free program.
am not sure if am following you completely. is this a file association error? if it is, maybe this will help:
1. open windows explorer and go to View - Folder Option - File Types tab.
2. look for the item with PDF extension and delete/remove it.
3. click ok. win explorer should show the windows icon on every PDF file available.
4. double-click on any PDF file and when aske which application to use for opening the file, select Adobe Acrobat (or it's free Reader). everything should work afterwards.
let us know if this helped.

Torturedmind,
You programmer types take tekkies to some pretty scary places in our software. I tried your suggestion. Tried to download a new ebook. No query about adobe. Same failed download but, thanks.
do you have acrobat reader installed? coz as i see it, this is just a bad file association wherein in your previous post, PDF files are associated to ACDSee picture viewer which should not be the case. try (re-)installing acrobat reader and see what happens.
let me know if this helped.

torturedmind,
Even after unistalling adobe6 I still had problems. Found some old files left over from adobe3. Deleted all adobe AND all ACD files and reloaded. I am now back to having only one problem...ME. Thanks to diogenese and torturedmind for the help.
