A co-worker and I have been discussing the ability to change rather than out ACD phones in our switch.

Now we understand that you are not suppose to use Easy Change to make any changes on an ACD phone. What we are trying to figure out is that if not using Easy Change, but just enter through until you get to the item you want to change, still causes potential issues or if you have to out a phone.

Also I was under the impression that the corruption comes from ACD phones not being able to drop old phone programming from it's BUS memory and it eventually builds up causing a failure.

There are many thoughs on this subject and you will get them all here. Mine is I used to work for Nortel back in 1979 to 1984 and when we didn't know why something happened but the customer demanded an answer, we always told them they made changes on ACD phones and that caused it. I don't use ECHG on ACD phones, but I have been moving them on TN's and making changes and I have never had a problem, but thats me. How safe do you feel doing it? If your using Symposium you should DeAquire it first before making any kind of change.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I agree, it all started with don't mov from group to group, and never easy chg a supervisor set to don't blink in front of ACD or you will suffer the wrath of blah, blah, blah....

I easy chg non-acd functions, I out re-build ACD functions.
I do not out 500 sets to add a roll-up line or otherwise.

Thanks for the help. I was wondering how much I could change a phone without it destroying my PBX. I work with a few other techs who were giving me conflicting answers and I wanted input from other sources.

all you will get here is one vote on each side... i never do change on an acd, echg or long version.. i do not allow other techs on site to make changes... i have had to do a complete install and restore on a pbx after a change on acd sets... that was back in rls 16 to 24 days... it takes two minutes to out a phone and put it back.. it takes an hour to rebuild a switch... it takes the rest of the week to explain why you didn't have phones for an hour
