AccPac Plus LanPac Problem 1

Hi All,

I have an old AccPac installation (Ver 7.0) that was running on a Novell server. Server crashed, fortunately we had backups made, but can not find all our installation disks and unlock codes to do a fresh re-install.

Our new set-up is a smaller peer to peer set up for the accounting staff. I've been able to restore all the asp and data directories and have gotten AccPac to load.

My only concern is that when starting AccPac it shows the lanpac set for a Novell Network. Will this cause problems if noe running on a peer to peer ? And does anyone know if it's possible to re-set this information without re-installing all the disks ?

Yes, it will cause problems. You will have a single user system.

No, it's no possible to re-set with re-installation.

Jay,

I have two uses running now, and the system manager shows the 24 lanpac's in the list of installed programs. It is not giving me any error ?

I've found my 7.0 upgrade disks for the LanPac from 6.5. But it does not let me change the network type. How is the network type changed ?

You're lucky so far, if the Lanpaks show Netware and you're on NT, it's just a matter of type before the wrong file locking is used and your data gets corrupted.

You need the System Manager diskette to change the Lan type.

I just did this exact scenario for an old Accpac Plus client a few months ago when their 486-based (I'm not kidding) Netware server crashed after 9 years of operation.

Thanks Jay,

I do have the System Manager disks. I though I needed the LAN disks to change the Network type. Offhand do remember the way you changed the LAN type ? (Did you need to re-install or just a command prompt ?)

Michael

Just re-install the system manager, it will prompt you.

Hi guies,

Can anyone please tell me what files do I need to install on a client to run Accpac Plus from the network.

Thanks
Glen

There is no client install. Map a drive so that PLUS.EXE is in the root, and run PLUS.EXE.

Thanks Jay,

I did as you advised and now I have an error message "User file problem. Cannot open the swap file in directory "F:\ASP\SWAP"". Do I have to creat a swap file?

Thanks
Glen

Your security permissions are too low for that folder. Raise it to full.

To add to what Jay has said - I have also found on some XP machines that the folder does not get auto created. If the folder is not there - create it manually.
