Hello

Could you please advise us on what is the best practices in regards to assigning ntfs permissions to the network share accpac. This directory is specified in the install of accpac, and oviously needs to be shared. I would like to lock down this folder for security purposes, so that files are not accidently deleted but also continue with business activity.

Thank you in advance.

All Accpac users need _full_ permissions to the Shared folder. If you're worried about deletions, make regular backups.

You can get by with less then full permissions.

Users need read+write+modify access to:
\<Shared data>\Site
\<Shared data>\User
\<Shared data>\Company

If your program files reside on the server then users need read only rights to the program folders.

Depending on the database and the Accpac version users need access to the Accpac data folders:
If you are not running Pervasive then no access is required to the Accpac data folders (MS SQL, Oracle, DB2).
For Pervasive and Accpac 5.4 no access is required to the Accpac data folders.
For Pervasive and Accpac pre-5.4 users need read+write+modify rights to the Accpac data folder.

It is best to use UNC paths in all Accpac setups.
You can experiment with hidden shares (Share$) as well, most users will not be able to figure that out.
