Hi;

I've run across a number(3) of machines running Windows 98 where an attempt to print cheques through Accpac (DOS) causes either a BSoD or a reboot of the system. I've checked the operation of the printer in Windows and all seems fine. Anyone else have this experience? If so how was it solved, or was it solved? One of the machines was a fresh install of Windows, the other 2 were older installs. I'm stumped.

Thanks

Hi Djangman;

All of the systems are using the Laserjet 4/5 accpac driver. Two are printing to HP 6Ps and one is to an HP 1100. All three have been printing well until about a month ago.

I could use all the help I can get.

Are you able to print from the DOS edit program?

Make sure the windows printer ports are still setup to capture the LPT ports.

Is the problem limited to printing cheques?

Do multiple stations use the same printer for printing cheques?

Is that printer a network printer or attached to a workstation?

Does each user have the same printer name assigned to the printer used for printing cheques?

Hey Djangman;
To answer your questions;

Printing from any DOS program seems fine.

Windows printer ports only need to be captured if using a remote network printer. These are local.

Yes the printing seems to be limited to cheques.

All three are locally connected printers although the computers are on a P2P network. The printers are not shared out.

I have 17 customers at different places using Accpac for DOS, some on networks some not. Most of them have been set up for years with no problems. This is a recent problem, within the last 3 months for one and the last month for two others. The accpac integrity check comes up OK. My thought was maybe an Accpac specific virus, although neither McAfee nor Norton come up with anything.

Thanks for your help so far.

P.S. is your handle a reference to Django Reinhardt?

Hi rebootIT,

Hmmm. I only have more questions. [ponder]

Does the same problem happen printing cheques through sample data?

Does the specification change font sizes at all?

Does the default spec exhibit this problem?

Did the print drivers change (on the windows side)?

Does it happen printing to a different printer?

An answer: Yes - I was named after Django Reinhardt. [smile]
