Hey folks,
We use a server / workstation model for Accpac -> one master install on a server and then workstation installs on the clients. We also use limited permissions windows clients (they can't install software) so we are used to running regacc on each workstation after product updates and hot fixes.
My question is... after upgrading the server to 5.6 will regacc suffice or should we run the 5.6 workstation install on all the workstations and if so should we uninstall the 5.5 versions from the workstations first?

cheers

Follow the 5.6 installation instructions....
1. Uninstall 5.5 workstation setup
2. Run 5.6 workstation setup
3. Run regacc in your case for users with limited permissions

I'm probably being dense but... from what I can see the Update Notice I should uninstall SM from the server and then proceed with installing 56.

I believe there is zero reference to the workstation setups in the Update Notice at all.

So I'm thinking:
1) Uninstall SM 5.5 from server
2) Install 5.6 on server
3) Run 5.6 Workstation Setup on the workstations (as admin on the workstation)
4) Run regacc on the workstations (as admin on the workstation)

Full instructions:
1. Uninstall SM 5.5 on server
2. Install SM 5.6 + service packs on server
3. Uninstall 5.5 on workstations
4. Run 5.6 workstation setup on workstations
5. Run regacc on workstations

Just watch out for anything that needs to be processed in 5.5. Sometimes you get everything lined up only to discover that someone entered/created a batch that stops the conversion. Then you need to find a 5.5 install to process it (unless you get clever with the database).

That will not happen if they follow the pre-installation checklist ;)

Thanks for spelling it out for me.

Two of us have done the upgrade a few times each using recent DB backups. As you've probably noticed in my posts here we've hit a couple of minor snags that we got past related to the banking module (in theory HotFixes should have addressed them but eventually Sage told us to delete a few rows from a couple of BK* tables).

We run Accpac in a VM and I'll be snapshotting the VM, backing up the DB, and cloning the install and data shares before starting anything.... that way I can start fresh a few times if need be.

In any case I am certain we will have no problems - it will all go perfectly... what could go wrong?

thanks again.

One last follow up... regarding the install/uninstall ordering:
1. Uninstall SM 5.5 on server
2. Install SM 5.6 + service packs on server
3. Uninstall 5.5 on workstations
4. Run 5.6 workstation setup on workstations
5. Run regacc on workstations
I will be installing 5.6 on top of 5.5 (that is into the same program and data shares on the file server). Is it still reasonable to install 5.6 into the share before uninstalling 5.5 on the workstations?
