Our company has just spent the last few days upgrading from an old version of AccPac - up to 5.5. For the most part everything went smoothly, the new server environment seems to be working well (Windows 2008 64bit, MSSQL 2008 64bit) - clients are all XP Pro SP3.
One client PC, however, would throw varying error numbers and crash - usually with an error message about the UI unable to to connect or has no authorisation. After hours of fault finding - a test reinstall of Windows on a new drive on the same machine, all proving fruitless. I remembered an issue I'd faced a few years back with an onboard NIC - causing issues with the client accessing a CRM - even though the machine still had an active network connection - and browsing wasn't affected.
I installed a 10/100 Realtek PCI NIC and disabled the onboard interface - restarted the machine - configured the new card and opened AccPac to test... no more errors, problem solved.
So just as a heads up - if you are getting intermittent errors and crashes... give this a try - just in case.
Hope this can help someone in the future.
