ACCPAC 5.4 and optional fields with Crystal

Hi,
Just updated to 5.4 from 5.2 and have been subjected to the new optional field tables in ACCPAC. Many of my reports use the old optional fields directly. I've created subreports for a number of these and have used global variables with success.

However, I have a couple where I want to group on the optional field in the main report. I can't group on a global variable so I am spinning my wheels at the moment for a solution.

One report I have uses an optional field to group customers and I need to use it in the main report.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why can't you use the new optional fields directly too.

If report needs to use both, set up a formula with logic to use either old or new

eg
@Option

If condition = x then {oldoptionfield) else {newoptionfield}

Then group on this formula.
