Hi all

Not an Outlook user so bear with me on the naivety of the question.

If you copy outlook.pst, archive.pst or any other *.pst to a backup device and then restore from the backup device, is the account setting data restored as well?

TIA

Simple answer is no, the pst files are just databases containing your messages . . . you can back up the profiles and account settings (excluding passwords) by exporting the . . .
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook
registry key.

Really? All the account information is stored in the Registry rather than configuration files? I guess it makes sense.

Also, I forget the path, you can backup your "autofill" email addresses from within the AppData folder. I forget the exact path, but Google is your friend on that one.

Chris,

Is this your computer or someone else's? If someone else's, you'll need to make sure they have their password. If they do not, there are ways to get it, but I can't mention the program(s) here for that, since they could obviously be used for the wrong reasons. Just make sure you get this BEFORE reinstalling or removing Outlook from the current system. If you don't, and they don't remember their own password, then they could be up a creek - until they contact the email provider for a new password.

Have already obtained the password for the third party's computer, but thanks for your concern.

Been caught like that before - if the password's wrong, they will simply have to wait until the email provider gives them one. [smile]
