Accidentally uninstalled my modem..... 1

as I was removing programs that I dont use anymore I accidentally uninstalled the modem. I tried to add new hardware and it isnt found. If I put in the windowsXP cd will it restart everything or is a way I can just reinstall the modem somehow. I have windows XP home edition, intel pentium 4 computer.......need help fast, wife is going to kill me.
