Hello,
My worst nightmare is coming true...
I work on a Compaq Alpha Server (4.0G)
By accident I removed many directories by means of a 'rm -r *' command in the wrong directory.

And now it seems the disk was not in the daily backup schedule. (Most recent backup 10 months ago)

Refactoring the whole tree structure would take us many weeks. It is the development folder.

Does anybody know whether there would be a possibility for a recovery of the i-nodes ????

Regards...
Luc

With appropriate respect to Dorga's post above - I would add that modifying a filesystem in that way is risky and should not ordinarily be attempted on a production system.

Also - inodes can be reused very quickly, unless you stopped using that system immediately it's likely that the information you need is irretrievable.

Oh -- and don't feel *too* bad about it - we've all done what you did Luc, it's how you learn about backups etc.
