accesslists->mac access-list (HELP!!!! :-) )

In config mode while creating access-list I've seen options such as extended or standard mac address lists and it was possible to create either within a range of 700-799 (standard) and 1100-1199 (extended). creating an access list was no problem but when Ive tried to add the group to the ethernet interface, it gave an error with an unrecognized access-list number.
Ive tried it with both cisco 7200 and 805 running IOS
c7200-is-m (ver 12.1(6)) and c805-sy5-mw (ver12.1(3))respectively.
does these routers need an IOS upgrade or what?
