Accessing the serial ports in Windows 2000

SOS!

Are any of you having problems accessing the serial ports in Windows 2000? I'm writing a simple VB app to shoot a file through the serial port to a handheld dat collection device using VB's MSCOMM32 control. This app works perfect in Windows 9x. I've even re-compiled the app under W2K and still no dice. Any Suggestions?
