Hi Everyone,

Our business recently acquired a Nortel 2033 Conference Phone from another business and I'm attempting to get it up and going.

However there are a couple problems with the phone and I'm pretty sure the problems exist with the firmware. At the moment I am unable to get the phone to communicate to my BCM50, however I can get the phone to boot up to the point where I can download a new firmware via TFTP.

The problem is that since the phone firmware files are stored in the BCM and they can't be accessed unless the phone is registered with the BCM (which I can't currently do right now), does anyone know how I can access the 2033 firmware files so I can use them to download via TFTP?

I checked the nortel documentation and it mentions the following steps:

1.Download the latest IP Phones firmware from the Nortel web site.
2. Load the latest version of the IP Phones firmware, place it on the TFTP Server, and unzip the files. Ensure the TFTP Server is started.
The files required are:
— configuration file (i2033.cfg, for example)
— firmware binary file (2310S10.bin, for example)
3. If you statically assign IP addresses, ensure that the IP address, TFTP Server IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway information are accurate. If you are using a DHCP Server, ensure the DHCP options are configured.
4. Enter the TFTP Server IP address in the configuration menu, and reboot the IP Phone.

I checked the nortel site, however the i2033 firmware files are not available. So my question is, does anyone know where I can access the nortel 2033 firmware files... either directly on the BCM50, or on the Nortel Web Site?

Thanks!

In other words, does anyone know how I can extract the Nortel 2033 firmware image from my BCM50?

Or, does anyoene know where I can download the 2033 firmware? (it doesn't need to be a recent version as once I have it loaded on the phone, the BCM50 will download a new version when the phone is registered)

[small]I was considering plugging the hard drive from my BCM50 into my linux desktop..... but I realized that's a WAY too extreme option right now.[/small]

Did you program the i2033 as a i2001 as that is how they get programmed.

Symptom:
Cannot program i2033 in Communication Server 1000 Telephony Manager with CLS as HFA.
Error: CLS not applicable : HFA
Error: HFA is an invalid class for this instrument type
Scenario: In Communication Server 1000 Telephony Manager have to select i2001 when trying to program a i2033 because i2033 is still not in the list. However by default i2001 has no HFA in CLS and therefore when i2003 is programmed unable to have this CLS.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

acewarlock, thanks for looking into the issue.... I wish it was that easy, but I feel that the business who had this phone before me really messed it up.

biv343, THANK YOU SO MUCH! now I can hopefully try getting this thing working!
