hello all,

I posted a problem here a while back, regarding NT kicking me back to the logon screen after a succesful login, I was experiencing this on two of my thre servers, one of the servers had an IDE drive, and the other has a SCSI drive, for the IDE drive, I put in the WINNT server cd, and chose the upgrade option in setup, this fixed the issue, ofcourse, I had to reinstall the options pack, service pack, and Reskit, but hey, I can access the server now. For the scsi, this will not work, so I used ghost to ghost the scsi to an IDE, and tried the same thing, no joy, because the image from a scsi drive, the setup will not allow an upgrade. I think I have found a solution though, I need to access the NTFS partition on the server through dos, and reset the calc, using FIXALC from the reskit, however, i do not want to spen 300 dollars for ntfsdos pro, so what I am asking is, how can I run fixalc on a remote computer? is there a way? please help.

Why don't you put the drive into a NT Workstation as the second drive (or install a SCSI card into the workstation if the faulty drive is SCSI) and then you can access the drive using Windows Exporer etc.

You can't use take an IDE install of NT and put it onto SCSI. When NT is installed it looks at the hardware and 'modifies' itself to fit the hardware (this is the HAL.DLL). So when you try to boot a IDE install on SCSI the loader etc won't find the drive and NT dies.
New Zealand, a great place to live.

Hello Darranagl,

Hmm, I could try that, but would I be able to restore the drive tthat way? How would I run fixalc on the drive if it was the secondary drive?
