I have a terabyte network drive on the system for backing up user files all over the network. Normally I back up my sco box to tape. The tape drive is giving us trouble, and we are working on just replacing the whole server. Is there a simple way to access this external network drive to back up to it? I use LoneTar, on Sco 5.05. Im also running vision FS.

Thanks

Does the terabyte network drive have a NFS server ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

hi zathros

what language does the network drive speak?

if it talks nfs, just mount it and copy the files that you need there.

if it talks smb, i'm not that familiar with visionfs having used samba for the last x number of years.

if you have the room you can tar up everything you need in a single file and use a client machine to copy from the sco box to the network drive.

rsync is another option.

I don't know if it has an NFS server and can not find what language it speaks. It's a Maxtor 1TB Shared Storage II Network Attached Storage N01R010 . It doesn't have a server per se, but you can administrate it via a web interface and via maxtor software installed on my pc.

I'll look into visinfs shares and see if I can get it to see it.

Any other ideas, Im listening! :)

from the online manuals it appears to be a braindead windows shares only unit.

so you need to back up your sco stuff to an archive file (tar, cpio, lonetar output, wtc) and put that archive file where visionfs can share it to a windows client, then copy it to your NAS device using the windows client.
