Hey guys - i am trying to access my pc from my home network from work. Does anyone know how i can do this? i have about 5 computers on the network at home. Do I need to set up dmz settings or anything if so can anyone provide some configuration details please. Thanks much.

the pc i want to connect to is a w2k professional. Can this be done? i'm not sure if xp is the only one that allows for remote desktop connection or if w2k can as well..thanks.

No need to setup a DMZ, just setup Port Forwarding to forward the port to the IP address of the pc you wish to use. You will need to setup Static IP's. Check out UltraVNC with the RC4 Encrpytion which allows you to connect to the pc only if the keys on the client and host match. As for the RDC on the XP machine, I would if enabled go into your registry and change the default port number to something else for alittle more security. Microsoft has a KB article for this port number change.

thanks ccis - the pc that i'm trying to connect to is a w2k box and not an xp...i'm wondering if that is why you suggested ultravnc to connect....or wait...or will the port forwarding allow me to connect to any os as long as i have the port mapped to the ip on the linksys? thanks for the help.

I've tried virtually all of the remote access products including terminal services and RDP. I keep going back to the purchased plan I have from gotomypc.com (citrix owned). It works, works well, cuts across virtually any network, can use java so you can get to your windows desktop from almost any type of client including PocketPCs. No mess, no fuss. I can do this from a cybercafe, my home office or inflight wireless running Xandros (linux) :)
