Hi Guys

i have a problem on one of my IPO Sites.
They hav a 412 controller .

i need to access the Admin PC via teh IP Ofice
they are on the Same network.

I have tried everythng but it doesnt work on this particular site , everywhere else it works like a dream.

The only way i can access it is if i dialing into there corporate network.

is the gateway of the Admin PC poining to the IPO, if not it will not be able to talk to your PC on a remoe network

or add a static route from the dialin PC + the Admin PC then you will have no probs - very easy....examples are from a default IP Office install

MANAGER DIALIN END
route add -p [ipo subnet] mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.99.4 (or whatever your dialin ip address is)

eg.
route add -p 192.168.42.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.99.4

ADMIN CD END
route add 192.168.99.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 IP OFFICE ADDRESS

eg.
route add 192.168.99.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.42.1

Hope this helps!

Wow IPOUK! Great info but not necessary...

One thing to look for is which NIC card do you have enabled for Dial In DHCP. If you use the 192 NIC then you will get assigned an address that cannot access the network. Make sure you assign the Dial In DHCP to the corporate NIC (The NIC that has the address of the network you are trying to access). Also add an IP Route for your network in the IP Route form. I have a customer with a 412 and their IP route is pointing to the wrong LAN port but it still works so this step may or may not be necessary. I just noticed it was incorrect when I started replying to this. Whoops! Look at your IP settings on your voicemail server and replicate those to create your IP route. The only difference is that the IP address in the IP route will end with a zero on the 4th octet (ie 10.1.1.0 if the voicemail servers IP address is 10.1.1.5). Same subnet mask and same gateway as the VM server. I hope this helps.

On a side note you may want to check the PCS revision of your 412. I had several nasty issues introduced to my customer when my part supplier sent me an old 412 unit. The PCS version should be 10. They sent me one with version 3.

I suppose you can add ip routes on the IP Office itself - but adding the -p in the route add adds the route as a permanent route - so say for example your IP Office is on 192.168.0.x - each IPO you ever add on in the future which is on the same subnet, you won't need to add in the route in the dialin pc as the permanent route is already there. I think it just keeps things a little neater

Hi Guys thanks for the Replies....

I have teh routes in place and i also have have teh PC gateway as teh IPO.

I access this Site Via ISDN Dialup.i also use VNC to connect to the PC , i still cannot connect to the PV Via IPO

Setting are :IP address, followed by Subnet mask , DHCP is set to dialin....

im going @#$% with this

Don't I get a star as well!!

Cheers

I use this type of setup regularly with no problems, you almost certainly have either a routing problem or a firewall problem

Routing:
Make sure the ipo has a route back to your system (if it hadnt you wouldnt be able to talk to the IPO anyway)
Make sue that the PC has a route back to your system using the IPO as a gateway (as you have DHCP Dialin this may not be 100% necessary)

Firewall

Make sure the VM Pc does not have a firewall running (or that all the necessary ports are open). this is very likley the problem on a WIN XP Machine

Hi guys,

For your information;
I hardly ever use the IP Office as a dialin DHCP server as it can cause problems ( technical and security ) on the customers network.

This what i do:
Make sure you have a dialin user ( default = RemoteManager ) and know the password of this user

Create a IP route with a IP address like this:
IP Address : 192.168.1.1 ( not in the same network as the customers network )
Mask = 255.255.255.255
Destination = the dialin user ( e.g. RemoteManager )
ProxyARP = on

This is how it works:
If you dialin on the IPO and do a ping to a PC then the PC will respond by sending packets to the IP Address of the dialin user. Usually those packets will go to the default gateway. Before sending packets to a unknown ip address a PC will send a ARP broadcast request in the network.
By enabling the proxyARP in the IP Office the IP Office will respond on those ARP requests and the PC sends all packets to the IPO. The IPO will then send the packets to the dialin user, it's a router also remember?
This only works if the PCs you want to access are in the same subnet as the IPO, this is usually the case for VM Pro servers and CCC Servers wich then can be remotely controlled by software like pcAnyware or VNC.
