I am trying to create a linked sql server from my external(outside firewall) sql server to an internal (inside firewall). We have opened up the sql port (1433) and the logins are correct but it always says the internal server does not exist. What is weird is that I can link the external to an internall where I am pulling info from the external. Any ideas.

Is that the port that SQL is running on (ie, have you changed it)?

Can you telnet from the externial server to the internal server on port 1433? If not there is a firewall blocking you.
