Accessing fields off the page 2

I'm working on an old CR7 Report someone else created and I've come across a problem. There are fields on the report that are off the right hand edge of the page. The report is in landscape. Changing the paper type from letter to legal gives me access to few more of the fields. But there are still more hanging off somewhere in limbo. All I want to do is get to the fields so I can delete them.
Suggestions? Unfortunately the printer driver doesn't have a setting for 8 1/2 x 10000 so I can't use that trick :)
Or should I just scrap this old report and redesign it?

Thanks,
Bob

Try installing the HP 3500 CP driver on the machine.

It's a standard Windows printer driver so you should be able to install it.

Allows for about 108 feet in it's largest paper size in landscape orientation.

No good for print, but allows plenty of geography for displays and exports.

If you need to print the report, and the width exceeds what the printer allows for, there isn't anything you can do it about it, which is consistent with ALL Windows based programs.

I would have used the Report Expert to delete the fields, but they are used elsewhere in the report which I don't want to delete.

The HP 3500CP driver did the trick, although it wasn't part of my 98SE standard printer drivers. (I ended up downloading it from HP).

Thanks guys!

You can also reduce the size of the report to 70% which will give you access to the page overflow fields on the right.

Thanks all.

I have already figured out what to do.

And yes, the report is going to be export to Excel. However, the issue is that I needed to put the columns outside of the page size. when I try to do this, the shaded area prevented me from placing the columns there.

The cross-tab object would not work, because the columns to be added would not be orderly - there is a different formula needed to be created for each column unless I create it already in SQL Server (which this will cause the db server to slow down alot.) The table has at least 1 million rolls.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are exporting the report to Excel, fields do not need to be wide enough to be read in Crystal, i.e. each field can be shortened to 1/8 inch in Crystal so only one or two letters or numbers are visible, but when exported to Excel the columns can be widened to show all characters.

As whichitakid has suggested, changing report viewing size to 70% or less will enable you to see the right hand limit of the field which disappears off the page.

Thanks jonbarr

I have done all the above already.

Now, how do you put the columns you want onto the non-printable space?

Linpro: You can't, that's the point of using a printer driver with ample space such as the aforementioned Try HP 3500 CP.

It's a simple fix and easy to install.

it is very interesting - however, how do I get the driver for HP3500CP - i definitely do not see it on my network.

Ahhh, it is a standard Windows printer, but any big kid Plotter should suffice.

Check under HP printers, it might be HP Designjet 3500CP 3500, something like that.

I had a similar problem with a complex report that I have been upgrading through various versions. A set of fields were duplicated outside of the print area. I managed to get most of the fields deleted.
I just tried under CR9 |View|Zoom|fit all on page
and I could finally get the errant fields and delete them!

By the way, with a page so wide, can I safely guess that the output is either Excel or CSV?

With Crystal 8.5 creating a csv output and using the Fake Header and False Group from BO ( ), I can have multiple detail sections and everything prints out on one line.

Also, whether it's Excel of CSV, you can "scrunch" up the fields so you can get more data on the page.

Just a thought.

Your guess it correct - I am exporting to Excel. The exporting is not problem.

What I was trying to do was add more columns - these reports were already created and the columns were already extending beyond the printable areas - I just wanted to add more.
