Hello,
I am using Crystal Reports XI with a SQL Server db.
I am trying to use a text file as a source file for my Crystal Reports, and cannot get the data into Crystal as seperate fields. It always comes into the report as one big field.
I set up an ODBC text driver and defined each field individually according to the customer's record layout specs.
I had our customer send a carat delimited txt file but that didn't help. He does not want it put into Excel but come in to us as a txt file.
All help and/or info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rory

Well, a carat delimited file can work, is the only answer one could give you from the above.

You mentioned Excel, try opening it with Excel. It may be that your client is also including some extnded ASCII causing the problem.

Note that if it opens in Excel, then save it as an Excel file and use that.

Hi,
thanks for the reply.
I can open the file in Excel but it has to be converted using txt to columns, otherwise it is one big field (cell).
I can't use an Excel spreadsheet as the source file because our customer is going to be generating the data automatically,
we will have the report scheduled through BO Enterprise, it will run against the data without our intervention.
I appreciate the feedback.
Rory
